During Lockdown I have had plenty of time to reflect, refocus and reset.  Let us press the reset button and reprogram our mindsets.

Research conducted April 2020 suggested,

Poor sleep and increased risk of exhaustion are also on the rise with the majority of the 500 respondents (64%) reporting a lack of sleep due to worries with a similar increase in symptoms of fatigue. Some 48% also admitted to working long and irregular hours.

Mental health was also found to be suffering, with half saying they were unhappy with their current work-life balance. A third admitted to frequently feeling isolated, while a fifth are worried about job security.

Our mindset matters, we need to feed our minds with the correct fuel.

A positive mindset means that you have a positive expectation that things will turn out well and that you will succeed. It gives you more courage to try and persist to make changes than if you have a negative mindset. Making positive changes in the way we think is necessary for our health and well-being. It also makes us more productive and focused.

  • Lower rates of depression.
  • Lower levels of distress.
  • Greater resistance to the common cold.
  • Better psychological and physical well-being.

In these uncertain times we may find ourselves wondering what is going on.
Schools are shut.

Working from home.

More free time.

Restrictions on going out.

You made plans, but now they have been put on hold.

Not sure what to make of it all.

How do you remain positive when there seems to be chaos all around?
Here are a few things that I have been doing to stay focused, I SMILE.

S– Start a gratitude journal or continue writing in your journal.
Write down each day, two things you are grateful for. This will shift your focus and allows you to see that there is always something to be grateful for. You can do this exercise with your children. Members of your family. Call a friend and share your gratitude.

M– Mediate on positive affirmations.

Recite a positive quote in the morning. Think about what it means to you at this time. Share your quote with someone. This is a great exercise because it can transform the way you think and view things

I– Inject some fun into your day.

Dance to some music like no one is watching. Reconnect with old friends. Sing in the shower. Combat boredom and add some fun into your day.

L– Lend a helping hand.

Think about who you can reach out to. This will help you to focus your mind on other things. There are people that need your support. Be that person that extends a lending hand.

E– Enjoy the down time.

We may never get this time again. What is that thing, or in my case the things that you have not got around to do? Don’t overexert yourself. Take one day at a time.

  • Enrolled onto some free courses.
  • Working on new offers for my business
  • Spending more quality time with family

Reconnect with the things that you have been too busy for.

Remain positive and don’t forget to SMILE.

Let me share how to invest in your yourself personal development.

Whatever you’re feeding yourself on, that is what you become.

You are the biggest investment, and you are worth it. Developing yourself is a priority. I encourage you to make small changes each day. Remember, every day is a school day. If you stop learning,  you’ll stop growing.

Why investing in personal development is important.

4. You will manage yourself more effectively

According to landmark report, people are on average online for 24 hours a week, twice as long as 10 years ago, with one in five of all adults spending as much as 40 hours a week on the web.
How much time do you spend on your phone? Watching mind numbing TV?  Unproductive tasks? You can not get time back. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Is it time to change your habits?


Continually developing yourself is key. Over the years I have been making small changes as I found myself not being very effective and felt unfulfilled. Change starts with yourself. I decided to make small changes to my daily routine. I started to see the positive impact that it was making. If you make one small change each day, imagine how many things you would have changed by December 31st. Why not start today?

1.Read. Read. Read
What are you reading?
Read for 20 minutes a day. Or listen to an audio book.
On the way to work, listen to motivational messages/ podcast. If you are taking the bus you could read a book/ listen to a book. A study in the UK researched that in England average commuting time per day has risen from 48 minutes to an hour, and one in seven commuters are now spending two hours or more each day travelling to and from work.
That is a lot of time travelling. Use your time effectively.

2. Listen to positive motivational podcasts/ messages
What are you listening to?
It develops positive thinking. These positive messages will inspire you. It can make an impact on you when listening to positive messages.

3. Surround yourself with like-minded people
Who are you spending time with? Iron sharpens iron.
Spend time with people that will elevate, inspire and motivate you.

Tell me who your best friends are and I will tell you who you are. If you run with wolves, you will learn how to howl. But if you associate with eagles, you will learn how to soar. John Mason

4. Focus on your priorities and goals
How do you spend your time?
Wake up 30 minutes or one hour earlier.
Focus on what is important and you will achieve what you set out to do.
Distraction comes in many forms. Make it a habit to change your routine.

At this time of year, I like to reflect. Personally, I think its good practice to reflect on your journey. Remember not to compare your journey with anyone else. This is your OWN path. Things should be a little less hectic, so take the time to ponder on 2019.

2020 is fast approaching, there has been highs and lows. Are you elated as to what you have achieved in 2019? Celebrating your wins is crucial, no matter how small, small progress is progress.

Self-reflection helps you to look at what you have carried out so far. Reflect on each area of your life and evaluate. If you want to see growth and change in your life, take action.

Firstly, find a quiet place where there will be no distractions. Like me, you may have to get up slightly earlier before the hustle and bustle begins. In this quiet space, it is just you and your thoughts. 

Secondly, have a notepad and pen to jot down your thoughts. Ask yourself these thought-provoking questions and ponder on them.

  • What have I accomplished?
  • What have I not accomplished?
  • How can I do things differently to produce different results?
  • What else do I want/ need to work on?
  • What action will I take in order to reach my goals?
  • How will I navigate the challenges?
  • What support network do I have?

Be honest with yourself as you go through these questions, as the saying goes, honesty is the best policy. By asking yourself these questions it will help you to see where you are on your personal development track. It allows you to clearly see what changes or adjustments you need to make.

Personal development helps you to make improvements in your life. We can sometimes feel stuck in our present circumstances. The unexpected events of life may take us off course. Do not loose heart, stay on track. You may have to reboot some areas in your life. You never know the tough times you are going through will encourage someone and it will develop the strength you need. Do not stay where you are. We can always make changes in various areas, re-examine your priorities. Change starts with YOU.

Create an action plan, this is all part of the personal development process. Never forget that personal development is a lifelong process. We must always be developing.

When you step outside your comfort zone, yes it will feel scary. However, once you keep taking those steps it will start to feel easier. Face your fears and venture out and experience personal growth. When you are in your comfort zone, your brain doesn’t want anything to change.  However, living outside your comfort zone creates just enough good stress to ramp up your focus, creativity, pace, and drive, and it helps you respond to life stress when unexpected things happen.


To develop your personal development there are several ways to push yourself outside of your comfort zone every day.

1. Don’t take the safe choice
2. Consider other points of views
3. Do what you are afraid of
4. Remember that tomorrow is another day


When I decided to take a leap and give up my job and become a personal development coach, speaker, and author, it was scary. Each day I would do something that scared me. I still take those steps and push myself. I have realised the benefits of living outside my comfort zone. Here are four reasons as to why living outside your comfort zone is beneficial.

2. New challenges and experiences rewire your brain and make it more adaptable, stronger, and healthier
3. You will boost your self-confidence
